Penang Char Kuey Teow in Lorong Selamat - Hv you tried?

Saturday, May 05, 2007
Lorong Selamat Kopitiam : Boycott!
*No offence to Penang-kias. This is strictly my personal thoughts.

This kopitiam is famous because of the "char kuey teow" only. Otherwise don't bother going there. This post is strictly to taruh the kopitiam kau-kau... for having such a stupid ruling to charge customers RM 0.50 just because they don't order a drink! X(

During our recent makan trip to Penang , one of my neighbours (a Penang-kia) took us to Lorong Selamat to savour the famous "char kuey teow" ( we also went to a few other spots for "char kuey teow" ). Since it was a big group of us, we occupied 3 tables lor, and subsequently ordered some drinks.

The drinks and food came and we all ate heartily. Yes, the "char kuey teow" is good, but expensive. At RM 5.50 a portion (and it's a small portion mind you), you can consider is one of the most expensive "char kuey teow" in Penang . But we're not gonna talk about the "char kuey teow" now. We're gonna talk about the kopitiam.

We asked this aunty to calculate the cost of drinks. 5 assam-type drinks and 1 ice-kacang a.k.a ABC. The aunty mumbled something and blurted out in hokkien "Zhap Zhi Kor" which means RM 12. Then hubby asked her how much was a glass of the assam drink, to which she replied RM 1.50 for each assam drink and RM 3.50 for the ABC while taking the money from hubby.

"Eeeeehhhh.... something's not right. 5 assam drinks + one ABC... that shouldn't be RM 12. Should only be RM 11! Aunty, you calculated wrongly liao!"
hubby exclaimed.

Lansi aunty @ Lorong Selamat Kopitiam

The aunty dam kau lansi, just mumbled "It's correct lah!" and walked off! The bloody nerve of her!!! All of us were like in awe over her lansi reaction. I just watched that aunty walk off hastily cos she knew she was in trouble with our gang liao. Hubby then called one of the Indon maid and ordered another one of those assam drinks, and told that girl "Sudah bayar" .

The aunty returned with the assam drink and proceeded to explain how she calculated the cost of RM 12. She said that 2 of our members didn't order a drink, hence it's by default to charge non-ordering drinking customers RM 0.50 per head. Since the cost of drinks is RM 11, and 2 of our members didn't order a drink, so the total cost is...

RM 11 (for drinks) + RM 1 (for 2 non-orders) = RM 12

We were dumbfounded and argued that the ruling is utterly stupid. Even my Penang friend wasn't aware of such a dumb ruling. The aunty that pointed at the notice board, with fine prints written on it. Indeed anyone that doesn't oder a drink from the kopitiam, a RM 0.50 will be charged accordingly. Geez, even KL doesn't have such ruling ok.

So 6 assam drinks + one ABC brings the cost exactly up to RM 12. So by "default" , we should pay an extra ringgit for 2 non-orders, but we refused because it's a stupid ruling by the kopitiam.

By then we had a few tables looking our direction liao. But we couldn't care less cos the kopitiam is ripping its customers off. So it's our right as consumers to make a racket because it's OUR money. The aunty went on to explain she's only working there, the boss made that rule yada yada yada. Then we said "Call your boss out! We will talk to your boss! " Then she said "You talk to my boss! You talk to my boss!"

The boss never came out. And we also suspected that this aunty IS the boss herself, but scared of us oredi because we made such a scene in her kopitiam. The aunty even challenged us to take a photo of the kopitiam and report it to higher authorities. WTF?!? So lansi hor?

So, if your friends tell you that Lorong Selamat "char kuey teow" is very good, believe them. Because it is really quite tasty. But it will cost you RM 5.50 a plate for a small portion, which may not be worth the trip sometimes. But the kopitiam where it's located, skip it. Because it sucks! And they couldn't even get the assam drink right! Blek!

*Note: Not all "char kuey teow" in Penang is nice. Some are just so-so, and I've tasted one of the worst "char kuey teow" @ Gurney Drive hawkers.

SO lucky get to conned by the most famous char kuey teow in Penang somemore complain, I want to kena con also cannot! NO CHANCE!

weekend

This weekend, I participated into another charity event - Canary Derby for cancer foundation . well although i was only a volunteer in the tent but who cares!! boy this feel great!

Alot of them bring dogs and kids - makes me feel like having babies too :)

Long line up to lunch - burgers and hot dogs

Schneider Electric's tent

Cute baby, this parent was holding her baby and i just randomly walked pass n "click" -

awww I want one toO!!!

Schneider "moving coffin" was the green one on the right - thanks to our mech Team, fastest they can go is 39Km/hr.

So, we got the first place! yay!

This event wasnt as intense as the 24 hr relay, we only raised 100k but 24hr relay was half a million!

Later of the day - we went to have a few drinks at peacocks to celebrate Candyce's graduation day.

And I had found my favourite martini - geisha , it is soooooooo tasty!!!
(soho lychee, euphoria pomegranate, and white grape juice)

Shane-man with his coke hidden behind the jug of russell extra special lager - i had found my favourite beer toO!

Dont you just love the menu? haha - oppps have i turned into kennysia? yea keep dreaming...

I did it again! it was suppose to be a touch up but i ended up re-did the whole hair - i would like to say is a different color but look at the next picture...

This is taken 3 months ago when i first got my first highlights, dont they look very similar? but i picked out different color i swear!

I got orange, purple-red, and brown in this new one .......you know whats more ironic? i was wearing the same jacket in those two photos! 3 months ago and yesterdy! creepy~~

Monster trucks are in town!!

It was just this very spontaneous event - and we ended up spending 120++ *ouch!*

But we get to spend some lovely time together on this not exactly very romantic venue/ event.

Here are "Out Law", "Maniac", "Bounty Hunter" and "Jurassic Attack" - I personally like Jurassic attack the best in terms of trust design but Bounty hunter's performance was the best!

Yea monster trucks r huge, but i was more impressed with the stunts done by the fly dirt bike riders.

Poor Lex

Picture this :

Is 12.o0pm and you are having a lunch meeting - chewing on your overnight fried chicken followed by spoonfull of rice - you are listening to your chair but your mind just wondered off....

wondered off to?

To my poor Lex! After the call from darling -" im taking Lex to emergency vet hospital because his face, eyes swell up until he couldnt close his jaw and open his eyes.

I was dead worried the whole time - when i finally get off the 1 hour - which seem like 3 hours long meeting, I saw two missed calls in my phone, and it was from the same number that Im not familiar with.

*Instinct* that must be from the vet, darling tried to reach me at the vet, something bad must ve happened!! *GASPED*

i dialed the number back and found out that it was INDEED from the vet hospital. When I called, a nurse answered and told me my dog and husband had left.

Pheeeeeeeew!

Poor thing is allergic to Bee stung, and he was stung by one this morning thats why it caused all these balloon blowing case around his face, tongue and probably his tonsil too.

I was very relieved until i finally got to talk to darling and know that everything is ok, Lex is sleeping from the two shots. I was still uneasy - keep have my mind on my poor little baby.

and suddenly it hit me that what is like to be a mom. Seriously that feeling is so sam tong.

I left work earlier today coz i couldnt take it anymore, i had to see Lex!

Finally i got to the store, lex was already hyper at the back jumping up to greet me, when he first popped up, he was like from this "big eyes caucasian or east indian" to this "chinese mata sepet" - he look so different !!! I couldnt see his eyes and it was all still pretty swell. But according to darling he was so much better, it was so must worse as he was showing teeth. and having hard time to breath.

I got the feeling now when ur worry about ur love ones....but he is almost healed now.

Pittbull Vs Porcupines - Dont try to be tough!

A Pit bull decided he would battle a Porcupine in back of his house here in Southern California.
But being both brave and stupid, he ultimately learned the hard way that he can't always win, no matter how tough you are...

A vet sedated the dog, and then removed a total of 1,347 quills.
The dog survived, and hopefully learned a valuable lesson.......

Don't mess with Porcupines !!!

Our first summer dip

After spending all day in the sun yesterday and some heat this morning - my body is literally hot! u know how it absorbed all the heat and you just feel like hot hot hot!

After the 7Km walk this morning, I kept pestering darling to go swimming at the lake. I know the doggies will love it! well at least Lex , not so much Pooky.

The beach is crowded!

We hiked up to a spot where there isnt that many peoples.

Lex and Pooky testing out the water, I know the heat been killing them lately too, and they were really tempted to go in.

Finally they did!! big Splash!

The Water is kinda cool, but it feeeel soooo great!

This is their first summer swim, we are so surprised Pooky is enjoying this so much! he used to be afraid of water...but all of us went in kinda encouraged him and he was like "hey! this is fun!"

Zoom in, Lex hasnt change much in the water

But look at Pooky! he looks hilarious !!! so different is like i dont know him anymore, look at those eyes!

Ahhhh this really feels great! my body cooled off so much after a 30 mins dip.

Flash your flags event at Plan B

I was so drunk last night, and i remembered attending this "Flash your Flags" event at Plan B. too bad i dont have any Malaysian flag shirt to put on. But I was wearing stripes, so thats pretty close though...

Later of the night, we had supper at Denny's - there is sampler plates, nachos and seasoned fries, YUM!!! Please ignore my stupid face, is the gin, vodka and beer! boy i been mixing!

I extremely dislike myself when I got drunk - some people said im happy drunk, some people said im roudy and obnoxious!

There are few kinda drunks - happy, naggy, roudy etc....I must say im alittle bit of all, well not so much naggy. But I will go right to sleep when im drunk or i will get very sensitive and emotional _ tears might just stream down out of nowhere!!

Once again I behaved childishly this Friday - caused a very unhappy scene. But the only one thing I can say benefitial is i was able to get someone let out something has been in there for long time, screamed n yelled n kicked! to be honest it is a very good release!

And I apologised for that.

I ve been playing volleyball all day today - for the 24 hours relay charity event for the kids. We actually made it to the playoff and lost :( The 24 hours relay managed to raised close to 500K to send the kids with disability to summer camp, I heard because of the expensive equipment and social care needed specially for each kid, it will cost about 2k for one. At least many of them will have so much fun this summer! gosh this feel good!

stay tuned for pictures
